My unit assessment I made for my assessment class during my fifth year as a graduate student. I was an intern as a student teacher during this time, too. During this time, I saw how important it is that a teacher knows how to grade students' work properly. What is also critical, is knowing what kind of assessments to give. I believe this unit assessment shows the ability I have when creating assessments that also fit with the standards.
This class taught me (and I believe this is seen in my unit assessment), that summative assessments should be made from the standards that you are trying to teach. If you can't clearly show what standards are on the summative assessment, you need to rethink your assessment. What is even more important to learn about, though, is how powerful formative/informal assessments are. My unit assessment is mostly about formative assessments. It shows how creative I can be with them, and how I can check my students' learning to make sure they are on the right track to grasping the knowledge I want them to. I know how to use assessments properly, and I think that will help my children succeed in their education.
I use the knowledge I acquired from this class in my classroom where I am teaching now as an intern (proof is shown by the picture of my Classroom Observation Form below from my supervisor). I am sure to create formative assessments as check points for the students' my learning of where they are at. I also understand why a pre and post test are needed within every unit I plan!
